An autonomous recording unit is a weather-resistant device that records sound according to a programmed schedule. It lets a project collect recordings at selected locations and times without a biologist standing beside every device.
Can this support endangered-species work?
Potentially, when the species, study question, method, and project authorizations fit. Acoustic monitoring does not automatically replace a required survey protocol or establish that an undetected species is absent. The appropriate method is confirmed before work begins.
Do you review existing recordings?
Existing audio can be scoped for organization and biological review. Send the recording dates, device information, file volume, target question, and available deployment notes so the review effort can be defined.
How is software used?
Kaleidoscope and other agreed tools can help organize, view, and review recordings. Automated matches require biological review; the report describes which files or samples were reviewed and how detections were assessed.
Are recorders and every recording hour included?
Equipment supply or rental, batteries and storage, travel, deployment length, retrieval visits, and the amount of audio reviewed are specified in the quote. They are not assumed to be unlimited or included in a fixed package.
